ZZ Top's tenth studio album Recycler arrived in October 1990, marking a pivotal transition for the Texas trio. Five years after Afterburner, the album represented both the culmination and conclusion of their synth-driven era that began with Eliminator. When the band arrived at Memphis Sound Studios on Beale Street ahead of their equipment, they borrowed gear and started jamming, rediscovering their blues roots in the process. This Rhino High Fidelity pressing releases October 31, 2025, as part of the Rocktober campaign, meticulously remastered from the original stereo tapes by mastering engineer Kevin Gray and pressed on 180-gram vinyl at Optimal.
The album produced five hit singles, with "Doubleback," "Concrete and Steel," and "My Head's in Mississippi" each reaching number one on the Album Rock Tracks chart. "Doubleback" gained additional visibility through its inclusion in Back to the Future Part III, where the band made a memorable cameo. "Give It Up" and "Burger Man" rounded out the singles, while deeper cuts like "2000 Blues" showcased the looser, more organic sound that emerged from their Memphis sessions. The album balanced their polished 1980s production with renewed blues energy, creating a bridge between eras.
This Rhino High Fidelity edition features heavyweight gatefold packaging and includes an exclusive insert with insights from Billy F Gibbons in a Q&A with James Austin. The 180-gram pressing delivers enhanced clarity and depth, with Kevin Gray's remastering from the original stereo tapes ensuring optimal sound quality. The gatefold presentation includes an obi strip, completing this premium vinyl package designed for serious collectors of ZZ Top's catalog.
