Wynonna - The Hard Truth [Black Vinyl LP]

Wynonna pares away much of the polished production associated with her earlier solo work on The Hard Truth, putting her voice and the songs in a more exposed setting. Made with producer and co-writer Cactus Moser, the album places grief, endurance, family history, and resolve at the center of its country writing. This black vinyl record carries that personal material through a less ornate approach than many of her earlier solo recordings.

The track list moves through several distinct perspectives. "All Downhill From Ashland" opens the album proper after a short prelude and sets up its autobiographical direction, while "Everything" brings Patterson Hood into a song shaped by loss and reckoning. "Hear Me Now" adds Iron & Wine to a quieter exchange, and "The Hopeful Lie" pairs Wynonna with The War And Treaty. Together, those songs show how the guest appearances serve the writing rather than turning the album into a series of features.

Wynonna and Moser share songwriting duties on material drawn from personal grief, fractured family relationships, survival, and the choice to keep moving forward. The album's eleven-track sequence marks a shift from the fuller production of many earlier Wynonna recordings toward arrangements that leave more space around the vocal and lyric. It is one of her most autobiographical projects.
