Weezer return to the self-titled format with Weezer, also known as the Gold Album, built around a more collaborative writing process. Rivers Cuomo, Brian Bell, Scott Shriner, and Patrick Wilson all contributed to the material, with producers Kenneth Blume and Klas Ahlund shaping the sessions. The 10-song album favors guitars, hooks, and band interplay, while "We Might As Well Be Strangers" brings Wednesday vocalist Karly Hartzman into the lineup.
"Shine Again" turns Patrick Wilson's songwriting into a guitar-heavy power-pop single with a large chorus, while "We Might As Well Be Strangers" pairs Rivers Cuomo with Karly Hartzman in a duet about a relationship losing its connection. "C.E.O." deliberately revisits the structure and humor of "Undone - The Sweater Song," using the pressure to repeat past success as its subject. Opener "Say Yes" takes a more introspective route, with Cuomo questioning motivation and his place in the band's long career.
This indie exclusive vinyl record is pressed on gold vinyl and carries the complete 10-track album on a single LP. The variant is designated for independent record stores, with the gold color serving as its edition-specific physical detail. The sequence runs from "Say Yes" through "The LA Sound," with "Shine Again," "We Might As Well Be Strangers," and "C.E.O." included on the same disc.
