Before Waxahatchee became a full-band project, American Weekend introduced Katie Crutchfield through spare guitar, close-range vocals, and songs recorded at home after P.S. Eliot. The album has the scale of a private notebook, but the writing is sharply formed, turning family rooms, old relationships, and Alabama references into compact folk-leaning indie songs. This limited edition red & black quad vinyl record is a UK import pressing of the debut LP.
"Catfish" opens the album with a plainspoken melody and a lyric that sets emotional distance against small, remembered details. "Grass Stain" moves faster and cuts closer, while "Rose, 1956" pulls family memory into a shorter, more reflective song. The title track stretches out more than most of the record, giving American Weekend one of its clearest early statements, and "Be Good" remains the best-known song from the album, built on restraint rather than a big chorus. "Bathtub" adds another late-album confession.
The album's power comes from how little it tries to dress up the writing. Crutchfield's songs stay close to breakups, bad habits, apologies, and the private thoughts that linger after a relationship has ended. That plain delivery is part of why American Weekend still reads as the starting point for the Waxahatchee catalog, not just an early document from a later-known artist.

American Weekend works best as a first statement, from the opening of "Catfish" to the closing reflection of "Noccalula." The red & black quad UK import pressing gives the album a distinct physical version while the songs keep their stripped-down character.
