The Wallflowers' second studio album Bringing Down the Horse transformed Jakob Dylan and his band from promising newcomers into 1990s rock mainstays. Produced by T Bone Burnett and released worldwide on May 21, 1996, the album reached number four on the Billboard 200 and went quadruple platinum, becoming the Wallflowers' highest-selling album to date. The recording process proved challenging as the band entered the studio in 1994 without a permanent lead guitarist or drummer after original guitarist Tobi Miller's departure, relying on session musicians including drummer Matt Chamberlain and guitarists like Mike Campbell of Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers. The album is dedicated to pedal steel guitarist Leo LeBlanc, who appeared on several tracks including "Invisible City" and "I Wish I Felt Nothing" before his death from cancer in 1995. This double vinyl pressing marks the album's first appearance on the format.

The album spawned four singles: "6th Avenue Heartache," "One Headlight," "The Difference," and "Three Marlenas." "One Headlight" became the band's biggest hit, reaching number one on the Billboard Mainstream Rock, Modern Rock, and Adult Top 40 charts. At the 1998 Grammy Awards, the Wallflowers won two awards: Best Rock Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal for "One Headlight," and Jakob Dylan took home Best Rock Song for writing the track. Beyond the singles, deeper album cuts like "Bleeders," "Invisible City," and "Laughing Out Loud" showcase Dylan's gift for crafting narratives about defeat and perseverance, while Burnett's production balances roots rock authenticity with radio-ready polish. The album's Americana-tinged rock sound stood apart from the era's prevailing grunge and post-grunge movements.

Spread across two black vinyl LPs, this pressing delivers Burnett's warm production with enhanced dynamics and separation. Dylan described the album's lyrical content, stating every song is about feeling massively defeated, reflecting what he was living at the time. The double LP format allows the album's mix of acoustic textures, electric guitars, and layered harmonies to breathe naturally. "One Headlight" is listed at number 58 in Rolling Stone's list of the 100 Greatest Pop Songs, cementing the album's place in 1990s rock history. This vinyl edition offers the definitive way to experience one of the decade's most enduring albums.
