Brian James' guitar riffs and Dave Vanian's vocals drive The Damned's debut, Damned Damned Damned, one of the defining releases of the first wave of British punk rock. Recorded with producer Nick Lowe and originally issued by Stiff Records, the album brought together James, Vanian, Captain Sensible on bass, and Rat Scabies on drums. This black vinyl record includes the band's breakthrough single "New Rose" alongside eleven more songs from the original LP.
"Neat Neat Neat" opens with a repeating bass figure before the guitars and drums rush in, while "New Rose" begins with its spoken introduction and launches into Brian James' guitar riff. "Fan Club" takes aim at celebrity attention, and "Born To Kill" moves through its verses with an especially menacing vocal from Dave Vanian. The brief "Stab Yor Back" races through its message in under a minute, contrasting with the longer, Stooges-derived finale, "I Feel Alright," which gives the band room to stretch out.
The Damned first released a British punk single and full-length album, placing the debut at the start of UK punk history. The lyrics mix hostile humor, romantic frustration, and provocative subjects, while the songs draw on fast rock and roll. Brian James wrote the band's original material, and the closing "I Feel Alright" reworks a Stooges song. Nick Lowe produced the sessions.

"New Rose" and "Neat Neat Neat" remain two of The Damned's best-known early recordings, but the shorter cuts are just as central to this debut. "Fish," "See Her Tonite," and "So Messed Up" complete the picture of the original four-piece's first album.
