The Cramps - Bad Music For Bad People [RSD Essential, Green]

Originally issued in 1984 on I.R.S. Records as the band's second compilation, Bad Music for Bad People collects eleven tracks from the Cramps' early catalog, drawn from singles and album cuts released between 1978 and 1981. The album landed during a contentious split between the band and I.R.S., though the music itself has long outlasted that context. Now available as RSD Essential #083 on Capitol Records, the record returns on limited "Goo Goo Muck" green vinyl as an Indie Exclusive, released March 27, 2026.

The Cramps blend stripped-down rockabilly guitar work with horror-movie imagery and a deliberately lo-fi punk sensibility. Poison Ivy's two-guitar setup, often without a bass player, gives the arrangements a hollow, trebly character that suits the material. "Goo Goo Muck," a cover of Ronnie Cook and the Gaylads' 1962 single, became one of the band's most recognized tracks after it was featured in the Netflix series "Wednesday" in 2022, introducing the song to a new generation of listeners. "Human Fly," produced by Alex Chilton and originally released as the band's debut single in 1978, is built around a two-chord riff and Lux Interior's processed vocal delivery. "Garbageman" opens the record with a raw, repetitive guitar line and sets the tempo for everything that follows.

Bad Music for Bad People is presented here as a standard single LP with the eleven-track sequence on two album sides, pressed on limited "Goo Goo Muck" green vinyl. The release is an Indie Exclusive on Capitol Records, RSD Essential #083.. The cover retains Stephen Blickenstaff's original caricature of Lux Interior, drawn on Halloween night 1983 and first used on the I.R.S. original.
