Taking Back Sunday's eighth studio album 152 is their first full-length offering since 2016's Tidal Wave. Named for the section of road in North Carolina between Highpoint, Chapel Hill, and Raleigh where the band and their friends would meet up as teenagers, the album title holds personal significance for the Long Island emo rock veterans. The 10-track LP was produced by Tushar Apte (whom the band met through a mutual collaboration with DJ Steve Aoki) and mixed by Neal Avron (Twenty One Pilots, Bleachers). Inspired by the long layoff and the cloud of uncertainty that blanketed the world and music industry, 152 stands among the most genuinely reflective and emotionally pure efforts of Taking Back Sunday's illustrious career. This limited edition juice marbled vinyl is limited to 1,500 pressed and housed in a gatefold jacket with a poly lyric sleeve.
The album opens with "Amphetamine Smiles," a soaring tale of reconnection that is as much about the band themselves as it is the world at large. Singles "S'old" and "The One" showcase the band's evolution, with the former wrestling with adult responsibility and the latter serving as an anthem of love and brotherhood. "Keep Going" tracks the darkness of betrayal, while "Quit Trying" drips with self-awareness about running from identity. Additional highlights include "I Am the Only One Who Knows You," "Lightbringer," "New Music Friday," "Juice 2 Me," and "The Stranger." From the album's intricate riffs and anthemic vocals to its elegantly warm synths and economical string arrangements, the quartet workshopped these new tracks like never before. Drummer Mark O'Connell noted the band's singular goal: "Is it capable of making people feel something?"
This limited edition juice marbled pressing features clear and transparent orange vinyl with black and ruby marbling. The gatefold jacket and printed lyric sleeve provide the complete visual presentation for an album that balances the band's emo punk roots with mature songwriting. All through 152, the consistent thread is one of generosity, gratitude and ultimately, hope. This pressing captures Taking Back Sunday returning after seven years with renewed purpose, delivering an album that satisfies longtime devotees while proving their relevance to a new generation discovering their catalog.
