Sting - Ten Summoner's Tales [180g Black Vinyl LP]

Sting brings wit, romance, and varied musical styles to his fourth solo album, Ten Summoner's Tales. The songs grew from writing sessions at his country home, where storytelling replaced the darker personal themes of The Soul Cages. Pop Rock melodies sit alongside jazz-informed rhythms, acoustic guitar, and occasional folk instrumentation. Sting recorded the album with guitarist Dominic Miller, keyboardist David Sancious, and drummer Vinnie Colaiuta.
The opening song, "If I Ever Lose My Faith in You," sets questions about belief against a buoyant chorus and keyboards. "Fields of Gold" slows the pace with acoustic guitar, Northumbrian pipes, and a lyric about lasting love. On "Seven Days," Sting turns romantic indecision into a playful countdown, supported by Vinnie Colaiuta's shifting drum pattern. "Shape of My Heart" turns quieter, pairing Dominic Miller's repeating guitar figure with a card player's search for meaning beyond winning or losing.
The title plays on Sting's surname, Sumner, and the summoner in Chaucer's The Canterbury Tales. Its songs examine doubt, affection, and moral choices. Sting and Hugh Padgham produced the sessions, with horns, harmonica, and Northumbrian pipes joining the core band. The 180g black vinyl record was cut at Abbey Road Studios and reproduces the album's original album cover artwork.
