Slayer - Seasons In The Abyss [180g Black Vinyl LP]

Seasons in the Abyss, released October 9, 1990 on Def American Records, was Slayer's fifth studio album and the last to feature the band's original lineup with drummer Dave Lombardo until his return on 2006's Christ Illusion, Produced by Rick Rubin, the ten-track record peaked at No. 40 on the Billboard 200 and was certified gold in both the US and Canada. Rolling Stone ranked it No. 31 on its 100 Greatest Metal Albums of All Time list. The 2013 pressing returns it to vinyl on 180-gram black vinyl with a double-sided insert included.

Ten tracks balance the mid-tempo approach of South of Heaven with the speed of Reign in Blood. "War Ensemble" opens Side A with a fast, riff-driven arrangement that became one of the band's most recognized tracks. "Dead Skin Mask" slows the tempo on a track built around a repeating guitar figure and Tom Araya's more measured vocal delivery, inspired by the crimes of Ed Gein. The title track closes Side B with a mid-paced arrangement and served as the band's first music video, filmed at the Giza Plateau in Egypt. "Spirit in Black" and "Skeletons of Society" fill out the harder moments on both sides.

Pressed on 180-gram black vinyl, Seasons in the Abyss is presented as a standard single LP with ten tracks on two sides. The double-sided insert includes printed lyrics on one side and a band photo on the other. The original album was recorded at Record Plant in Los Angeles and A&M Recording Studios in Hollywood, and the ten-track sequence has remained unchanged on every pressing since the 1990 original.
