The Rolling Stones traded the psychedelic experiments of their previous album for acoustic blues, country touches, and rock arrangements on Beggars Banquet. Recorded with producer Jimmy Miller, the album introduced a partnership that continued through some of the band's most celebrated work. Mick Jagger's storytelling and Keith Richards' guitar playing shape a collection that moves from intimate, largely acoustic performances to confrontational rock.

"Sympathy For The Devil" opens with congas, piano, and a first-person account of historical violence, building through Jagger's vocal and backing chants. "No Expectations" slows the pace with Brian Jones' slide guitar and a resigned lyric about leaving. "Dear Doctor" turns to country music for a comic tale of a wedding gone wrong, while "Street Fighting Man" pairs urgent acoustic guitars with lyrics responding to political unrest. The contrast between these songs shows the range of the Stones' writing here.

Blues traditions inform "Prodigal Son," adapted from Robert Wilkins, and "Parachute Woman." Lyrics address political conflict, disappointment, class, and work. Beggars Banquet was the last Rolling Stones album completed by all five original members. Brian Jones contributed slide guitar and harmonica, while Jimmy Miller began producing the band, a partnership that continued into the 1970s.
