Originally released on October 28, 1991, Greatest Hits II collected Queen's European hit singles from 1981 to 1991, picking up where the first hits compilation left off a decade earlier. The seventeen tracks ran from "Under Pressure," the 1981 collaboration with David Bowie, through "The Show Must Go On," the last single released during Freddie Mercury's lifetime. The album debuted at No. 1 on the UK Albums Chart and has sold 19 million copies worldwide. Now on Hollywood Records as a limited 180-gram black vinyl 2LP, the reissue is half-speed mastered at Abbey Road Studios and presented in a gatefold jacket.
The seventeen tracks span Queen's most commercially dominant decade, from the arena rock of "Radio Ga Ga" and "I Want It All" to the synth-driven "A Kind of Magic" and the theatrical balladry of "Who Wants to Live Forever" and "The Show Must Go On." "Under Pressure," the David Bowie collaboration, opens Side A and remains one of the most recognizable singles in the catalog. "I Want to Break Free," built on John Deacon's bass line, closes Side A. "Innuendo," the nine-minute track that topped the UK Singles Chart in 1991, anchors Side B alongside "Headlong" and "The Miracle."
Half-speed mastered at Abbey Road Studios by Miles Showell, with additional mastering at Gateway Mastering Studios in Portland, Maine, Greatest Hits II is presented on 180-gram black vinyl in a gatefold jacket. The seventeen tracks are sequenced across four sides, consistent with the standard configuration used on all double LP editions of the compilation. Hollywood Records issued this pressing as a limited edition, the most carefully mastered vinyl version of the compilation released to date.
