Following the massive success of 2012's Collide with the Sky, Pierce the Veil spent over a year crafting their fourth album with producer Dan Korneff. Recording sessions took place throughout 2014 and 2015 on Long Island, New York. Misadventures reached number 4 on the Billboard 200 when it was released in 2016, cementing the San Diego band's status as one of the most successful post-hardcore acts of the 2010s. The album title represents the band's journey through unexpected turns and challenges during the recording process, with frontman Vic Fuentes explaining that it captured all the different places they wrote, recorded, and lived while trying to find the end of the album. This limited edition indie exclusive features silver vinyl with red splatter, a striking visual complement to the album's emotional intensity.
Misadventures leaned more towards pop-punk compared to their previous work, while maintaining the technical prowess and emotional depth fans expect. The album features the singles "The Divine Zero," "Texas Is Forever," and "Circles." Opening with "Dive In," the album moves through aggressive tracks like "Texas Is Forever" and "The Divine Zero" before exploring more introspective territory with "Floral and Fading" and the dramatic "Phantom Power and Ludicrous Speed." "Circles" addresses the November 2015 terrorist attacks in Paris, marking the first time the band tackled a contemporary historical event in their songwriting. The album closes with "Song for Isabelle," showcasing the band's ability to craft both explosive and tender moments.
Misadventures was met with critical acclaim, holding an 86 rating on Metacritic signifying universal acclaim. Alternative Press gave it 90/100, stating that every single track is a winner and that the album expertly redraws the band's map, celebrating their impossible blend of ambitious creative obsessions and electric raw intensity. This silver with red splatter vinyl pressing captures the album's polished yet powerful production. The indie exclusive edition honors an album that represents Pierce the Veil at their most ambitious, balancing technical musicianship with accessible melodies and maintaining the emotional authenticity that built their devoted fanbase.
