George Clinton and Parliament delivered Mothership Connection in December 1975, a groundbreaking concept album that transported funk into outer space and forever changed the trajectory of Black music. This black vinyl reissue captures the band's fourth studio album at the height of their creative powers. Mothership Connection became Parliament's first gold and platinum certified album, supported by the hit "Give Up the Funk (Tear the Roof off the Sucker)," the band's first million-selling single. The Library of Congress added the album to the National Recording Registry in 2011, declaring that it "has had an enormous influence on jazz, rock and dance music."

The album marked the first collaboration with horn players Maceo Parker and Fred Wesley, formerly of James Brown's J.B.'s, who joined Bootsy Collins and Bernie Worrell to create an unstoppable funk force. "Give Up the Funk (Tear the Roof off the Sucker)" peaked at No. 5 on the Billboard Hot Soul Singles chart and No. 15 on the pop chart, establishing Parliament as a commercial powerhouse. The album opens with "P. Funk (Wants to Get Funked Up)," a nearly eight-minute declaration of funk supremacy, while "Mothership Connection (Star Child)" interpolates the spiritual "Swing Down Sweet Chariot" to introduce one of Clinton's most famous personas. Additional standouts include "Unfunky UFO," "Supergroovalisticprosifunkstication," and the slow-burning "Handcuffs." The album peaked at No. 13 on the Billboard 200 and No. 4 on the R&B Albums chart, a rare achievement for funk in 1976.

This vinyl pressing preserves the album's revolutionary production, showcasing the interplay between Bernie Worrell's synthesizers, the punchy horn arrangements, and Bootsy Collins' unmistakable bass grooves. Ranked 363rd on Rolling Stone's 2020 list of the 500 Greatest Albums of All Time, Mothership Connection remains one of the most sampled albums in hip-hop history, with Dr. Dre extensively mining its grooves for The Chronic. This reissue honors an album that pioneered Afrofuturism and continues to influence artists across genres, from OutKast to Bruno Mars.
