Panic! At The Disco - Vices & Virtues [Black Vinyl LP]

Released in 2011, Vices & Virtues became a pivotal album for Panic! At The Disco as Brendon Urie and Spencer Smith rebuilt the band's sound following a major lineup change. Rather than simply recreating the style of Pretty. Odd., the pair combined emo-pop and pop-punk energy with ornate strings, keyboards, theatrical flourishes, and tightly constructed pop melodies. "Ready to Go (Get Me Out of My Mind)" turns toward bright power pop, and "Nearly Witches (Ever Since We Met...)" closes the record with choir vocals and an elaborate arrangement that brings the album's theatrical side fully forward.

Despite its stylistic variety, Vices & Virtues remains unusually cohesive, balancing darker lyrical themes with energetic melodies and carefully layered instrumentation. Urie's increasingly prominent role as a songwriter and multi-instrumentalist is especially apparent here, while Smith's drumming gives the album a strong rhythmic backbone.
