West London folk rock quartet Mumford & Sons made an immediate impact with their debut studio album Sigh No More. The album was released on 2 October 2009 in the UK, and on 16 February 2010 in the United States and Canada. Recorded at Eastcote Studios, where Arctic Monkeys, Brian Eno, Tindersticks and Laura Marling have honored their sound, the band teamed with producer Markus Dravs who has worked with such superstar acts as Arcade Fire, Bjork and Peter Gabriel. The album peaked at No.2 in the UK and US charts, after the phenomenal win of Album of the Year at the 2011 BRIT Awards, selling over a million copies in the UK and over 3 million in the US. This 180-gram pressing was mastered by Bob Ludwig at Gateway.
The album spawned four singles: "Little Lion Man" (which reached number 1 on the Billboard Alternative Songs chart), "Winter Winds," "The Cave," and "Roll Away Your Stone." The 12-track collection opens with the title track, referencing Shakespeare's Much Ado About Nothing, establishing the band's literary influences. "The Cave" and "Winter Winds" showcase the group's ability to craft anthemic, foot-stomping folk rock, while "White Blank Page" and "I Gave You All" reveal more introspective moments. The banjo-driven energy of tracks like "Little Lion Man" contrasts with the darker reflections of "Thistle & Weeds" and the epic storytelling of "Dust Bowl Dance." "After the Storm," the only track written in the studio away from the live stage, stands as an incredibly moving final track to an incredibly moving album.
This 180-gram vinyl pressing delivers Bob Ludwig's mastering with warmth and clarity, capturing the interplay between Marcus Mumford's impassioned vocals, Winston Marshall's banjo work, Ben Lovett's keyboards, and the band's signature harmonies. The pressing includes a printed innersleeve with lyrics. The album helped redefine contemporary folk music for a new generation, bridging traditional instrumentation with the emotional scale of arena rock. This pressing preserves the raw energy and emotional intensity that made the debut one of the defining folk rock albums of the late 2000s.
