Ministry's fifth studio album Psalm 69: The Way to Succeed and the Way to Suck Eggs was originally released on July 14, 1992, by Sire Records. Produced by frontman Al Jourgensen and bassist Paul Barker, the album was recorded from March 1991 to May 1992 in Chicago, Illinois, and Lake Geneva, Wisconsin. The album's title was derived from Aleister Crowley's The Book of Lies, with the full name serving as a darkly humorous reference. Featuring guitarists Mike Scaccia and Louis Svitek alongside drummer Bill Rieflin, the album blends elements of speed metal, rockabilly, and psychobilly with industrial sounds. This Rocktober 2025 expanded edition on 180-gram black vinyl includes remixes and extended versions across two LPs, offering the definitive pressing of Ministry's most successful album.
The original nine-track album opens with the politically charged "N.W.O.," featuring samples and thrash metal intensity, followed by the addiction-themed "Just One Fix" with Scaccia's relentless riffing. "Jesus Built My Hotrod," featuring Butthole Surfers' Gibby Haynes on vocals, became an unlikely hit with its psychobilly chaos and rockabilly energy. "Scarecrow" stretches over eight minutes of industrial atmosphere, while the title track incorporates samples from the 1980 film Altered States. The album closes with the instrumental tracks "Corrosion" and "Grace." The second LP delivers bonus material including the radio edit of "Jesus Built My Hotrod," the track "Fucked," extended dance mixes of "N.W.O." and "Just One Fix," plus the "Quick Fix" remix and alternate "Red Line / White Line Version" of "Jesus Built My Hotrod."
Psalm 69 peaked at number 27 on the Billboard 200 and was certified platinum in the US, becoming Ministry's best-selling release. This 180-gram pressing delivers the remastered audio with enhanced clarity, capturing every layer of Jourgensen and Barker's meticulous production. The expanded edition includes an insert and presents both the iconic original album and the wealth of remixes that showcase Ministry's experimental range. For anyone seeking industrial metal at its most uncompromising and influential, this pressing offers the complete Psalm 69 experience.
