"Pharaoh's Dance" builds from interlocking electric piano figures, bass, percussion, and Davis' trumpet over more than twenty minutes, while the title track moves through a darker, heavier pulse led by bass clarinet and electric keyboards. "Spanish Key" leans on a repeating rhythmic figure and extended solo passages, "John McLaughlin" puts guitar at the center, and "Miles Runs the Voodoo Down" drives on a deep blues-based groove with trumpet, bass, drums, and dense layered hand percussion underneath.

Bitches Brew develops through extended ensemble passages, repeated rhythmic ideas, abrupt edits, and shifting instrumental combinations rather than conventional song forms. Davis leaves space for the band to reshape the music, while electric keyboards, guitar, bass clarinet, and percussion connect jazz improvisation with rock and funk.
