Miles Davis - Bitches Brew [2LP 180g Vinyl Import, Gatefold]

Built from three August 1969 sessions, Miles Davis' Bitches Brew uses a larger electric ensemble to break away from the compact structures of his earlier work. Trumpet, electric piano, guitar, bass clarinet, acoustic and electric bass, drums, and hand percussion overlap in long-form performances shaped by producer Teo Macero. The resulting double album became a central statement of Davis' electric period and a foundation of jazz fusion.

"Pharaoh's Dance" moves through recurring keyboard figures and percussion before opening into extended trumpet and ensemble passages. The title track uses Bennie Maupin's bass clarinet, electric piano, guitar, bass, and multiple drummers to build its massive central groove. "Spanish Key" rides a repeating rhythmic pattern with room for long solos, while "Miles Runs the Voodoo Down" draws heavily from the blues. "Sanctuary" closes the album with a slower, spacious arrangement based on a Wayne Shorter composition.

The six pieces on Bitches Brew favor development, repetition, and collective improvisation over conventional verse-chorus forms. Davis lets rhythm sections establish the framework while horns and keyboards enter, recede, and return in changing combinations. This UK import is pressed on two 180g black vinyl records and housed in a gatefold jacket. Its six tracks fill four record sides.
