Kiss use Creatures Of The Night to move away from pop experiments and back toward a heavier hard rock attack, with Eric Carr's drums, Paul Stanley's leads, and Gene Simmons' writing giving the album a louder edge. The record centers on big choruses, darker titles, and arena-scale riffs rather than the theatrical detours of the previous era. This 180g audiophile black vinyl record was released to coincide with the band's 40th Anniversary and uses a high-definition 192kHz/24-bit remaster.
"Creatures Of The Night" opens with a heavy drum entrance and a title chant that resets the band immediately. "I Love It Loud" turns the chorus into a stomp built for audience response, while "I Still Love You" slows the album into one of Paul Stanley's most dramatic vocal performances. "War Machine" gives Gene Simmons a harder, more menacing track near the end of side two, and "Rock And Roll Hell" adds another Desmond Child co-write to the album's tougher early-80s hard rock direction on this LP.
The album shows Kiss rebuilding its identity before the non-makeup years, with a heavier sound that points toward Lick It Up and later 80s hard rock. Carr's drum sound is central, giving tracks like "Danger" and "Keep Me Comin'" more force than the band's late-70s studio work. This edition also marked the album's first U.S. vinyl pressing since the 1985 editions.
