INXS - INXS [Limited Edition Rocktober Sea Blue Colored Vinyl]

INXS were still shaping their early new wave, ska, and rock identity when they recorded INXS, their self-titled debut album, during midnight-to-dawn sessions after often playing Sydney pub shows earlier the same night. Michael Hutchence's vocals sit over Andrew Farriss' keyboards and guitar, Tim Farriss' lead guitar, Garry Gary Beers' bass, Jon Farriss' drums, and Kirk Pengilly's guitar and saxophone, with every song credited to the six band members.

"Just Keep Walking" became INXS's first Australian Top 40 single, using a compact new wave arrangement built from guitar, keyboards, saxophone, bass, drums, and Hutchence's vocal. "On a Bus" opens the album with a longer, more rhythm-driven structure, while "Doctor" moves quickly through a shorter two-and-a-half-minute arrangement. "Learn to Smile" stretches close to five minutes, giving the band's early combination of rock, new wave, pop, and ska more room to develop than the album's shorter songs.

The debut reflects a band still shaping the approach heard on later albums, with material that leans more strongly toward new wave and ska than much of INXS's best-known work. Co-produced by INXS and Duncan McGuire, the album was first issued in Australia before reaching international markets several years later. This Rocktober edition is pressed on a Sea Blue colored vinyl record.
