Green Day - Dookie [30th Anniversary, Baby Blue Vinyl LP]

Three Bay Area kids walked into Fantasy Studios in Berkeley during summer 1993 and changed punk rock forever. Released February 1, 1994, Dookie sold over 10 million copies in the United States and 20 million worldwide. On September 16, 2024, Dookie was certified 2x Diamond by the RIAA for 20 million US sales, becoming only the 13th album ever to achieve this milestone. The album peaked at number two on the Billboard 200 and won the Grammy Award for Best Alternative Music Album in 1995. Producer Rob Cavallo initially hoped to sell 200,000 copies; the first 9,000 pressed sold out immediately.

Recorded with producer Rob Cavallo at Fantasy Studios, Dookie features Billie Joe Armstrong's songs about boredom, anxiety, and suburban angst. "Longview" explores extreme boredom and lack of motivation, while "Basket Case" became an MTV staple addressing anxiety and paranoia. "When I Come Around" topped the Modern Rock chart alongside "Basket Case" and "Longview." The re-recorded "Welcome to Paradise" from 1991's Kerplunk gained new life, and hidden track "All By Myself" showcases drummer Tré Cool's vocal debut. The album's fast-and-slow punk blend brought melodic energy to grunge-dominated radio and solidified punk's mainstream popularity.

This 30th anniversary edition features baby blue vinyl celebrating the album that made Green Day international superstars. Rolling Stone ranked Dookie at number one on its "1994: The 40 Best Records From Mainstream Alternative's Greatest Year," while the album appeared in 1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die.
