Singer-songwriter Gracie Abrams released This Is What It Feels Like in 2021 on Interscope Records, with the vinyl edition following in 2022. The daughter of filmmaker J.J. Abrams stepped further into the spotlight with this 12-track collection that expands on the intimate bedroom pop aesthetic of her debut project Minor. Abrams co-wrote all the tracks and took on production duties for "Feels Like," which served as the lead single. Working alongside producers Aaron Dessner, Joel Little, and frequent collaborator Blake Slatkin, she crafted minimalistic yet emotionally complex songs exploring self-betrayal, insecurity, and failed connections. The project was supported by "Feels Like" and "Rockland" as singles, with the latter created alongside Aaron Dessner.
The title track "Feels Like" opens with Abrams' vulnerable vocal delivery over stripped-down production, setting the tone for a collection that balances raw confession with careful arrangement. "Rockland" showcases Dessner's atmospheric touch, while "Camden" offers stark self-reflection where Abrams examines her own role in relationship failures. "I Miss You, I'm Sorry" became a breakout moment, with its honest examination of lingering feelings resonating deeply with listeners. "Augusta" brings melancholic beauty to the collection's second half, and "Painkillers" addresses emotional numbness with unflinching honesty. "Alright" closes with a glimmer of acceptance, proving Abrams' ability to find hope within heartbreak.
This black vinyl pressing with gatefold jacket delivers the album's delicate production with warmth and clarity. The mastering by Randy Merrill and lacquer cutting by Levi Seitz at Black Belt Mastering ensures that Abrams' whispered vocals and the subtle instrumental details come through with intimacy. The gatefold sleeve provides expanded artwork space, enhancing the visual presentation of this introspective collection. This vinyl edition captures the bedroom pop intimacy that has made Abrams one of indie pop's most compelling emerging voices.
