Grief, transcendence, and a quarter century of rule-breaking creativity converge on The Mountain, Gorillaz' ninth studio album, released February 27, 2026, on their own Kong label. Produced by Damon Albarn, Remi Kabaka Jr., James Ford, and Samuel Egglenton, the album was shaped by profound personal loss: both Albarn and visual collaborator Jamie Hewlett lost their fathers within days of each other in 2024. Recorded across London, Devon, Miami, and multiple cities in India, it arrived to universal acclaim as Gorillaz' most celebrated album in years.
Every one of the 15 tracks features a different collaborator, spanning five languages and decades of musical lineage. Lead single "The Happy Dictator," featuring Sparks, is a propulsive and surreal opener, while "The Hardest Thing," featuring the late Tony Allen, is among the album's most elegiac moments. "Damascus," featuring Omar Souleyman and Yasiin Bey, brings Arabic and Hip-Hop currents into sharp focus. Posthumous contributions from Bobby Womack, De La Soul's Dave Jolicoeur, and Mark E. Smith add a weight that lifts The Mountain well beyond a typical Gorillaz release.
This Indie Exclusive pressing arrives on Yellow Vinyl, housed in a gatefold sleeve with printed inner sleeves, a 12" printed insert, and an obi strip. Jamie Hewlett's hand-drawn artwork, depicting the band navigating India across both gatefold panels, is some of his most intricate work to date.
