Everlast returns to blues, roots rock, and Americana on Embers To Ashes, his first full-length album in eight years. Produced by Yelawolf, mixed by Chris Lord-Alge, and recorded in Nashville with songwriter David Ray among the contributors, the 17-track set centers on hard-earned perspective, personal accountability, success, loss, and recovery. His eighth album extends the singer-rapper's long-running connection between Americana, blues, and rock.
"My Hollywood" looks back at the lure and fallout of entertainment success with a lighter, autobiographical angle, while "Stones" turns toward culpability, regret, addiction, and forgiveness. "Losing Man's Game" treats brokenness as a point of acceptance rather than defeat, and "Peace of Mind" brings blues and rock together for a song about redemption, self-awareness, temptation, and personal integrity. "Rubber Bullets" addresses the fallout surrounding George Floyd's murder, while "Young Man" closes with advice from an older perspective. "1987" looks back on Everlast's west-side Valley days before recording with Ice-T, adding another autobiographical chapter. These songs show the album moving between humor, confession, warning, and reflection in distinct ways.
Musically, Embers To Ashes continues Everlast's long-running blend of blues, rock, and rap, led by his earthy baritone and conversational delivery. Yelawolf's production frames that mix in a Nashville-recorded setting, while the album moves between pensive, stripped-back passages and more upbeat material. The result is a roots-based sound that still reflects Everlast's hip-hop background.
