Twenty-five years after his death, Elvis Presley returned to the top of the charts and proved the King's reign was far from over. ELV1S 30 #1 Hits debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 with 501,000 copies sold in its first week, marking Elvis's first No. 1 album debut and his first chart-topper since 1973. The compilation spent 112 weeks on the Billboard 200 and was certified 6x Platinum by the RIAA, while worldwide sales reached 11.7 million copies. Released September 24, 2002, ELV1S 30 #1 Hits became the largest-selling archival album since The Beatles' 1.

This chronological journey spans from "Heartbreak Hotel," which spent seven weeks at No. 1 in 1956, to "Suspicious Minds," Elvis's 17th and final American number one during his lifetime. "Hound Dog"/"Don't Be Cruel" spent 11 weeks at No. 1, while "All Shook Up" dominated for eight weeks. "Jailhouse Rock" shot to No. 1 on both the Billboard Hot 100 and UK Singles Chart. Other chart-toppers include "Love Me Tender," "Are You Lonesome Tonight?," and "Can't Help Falling in Love." The JXL remix of "A Little Less Conversation" reached No. 1 in over 20 countries in 2002. The compilation was produced and mixed in stereo by David Bendeth with remastering by Ted Jensen on the first thirteen mono recordings and George Marino on the last sixteen stereo tracks.

This 180g black vinyl 2LP features a gatefold jacket presenting all 30 chart-toppers. The 18 stereo recordings from 1960 onward were digitally remixed from the original multitrack recordings, while earlier mono tracks were remastered from master tapes. Rolling Stone's Parke Puterbaugh gave ELV1S 30 #1 Hits five out of five stars, praising the improved sound quality. The UK release debuted at number one with 115,000 copies sold and was certified 7x Platinum by the BPI in 2023.
