Dream Theater's sixth studio album Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence arrives as a Rocktober 2025 exclusive on clear vinyl, originally released January 29, 2002, through Elektra Records. This double LP reissue celebrates the progressive metal milestone that marked Dream Theater's first full-length album to feature a title track. The ambitious project showcases the New York quintet at their most daring, with the 42-minute title suite exploring the stories of six individuals suffering from various mental illnesses, including bipolar disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder, schizophrenia, post-partum depression, autism, and dissociative identity disorder. This limited indie exclusive pressing includes a gatefold jacket and lyric insert.
The first disc opens with "The Glass Prison," an incredible piece with dizzying guitar effects, thundering guitar and keyboard synchronization, strong vocals and brilliant lengthy progression. "Misunderstood" is a beautiful ballad-like piece that begins with a dreamlike chord structure and then builds up into an epic distorted outro, while "Blind Faith" showcases the band's intricate instrumental prowess. The second disc contains the eight-movement title suite "Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence," beginning with the overture and flowing through "About to Crash," "War Inside My Head," "The Test That Stumped Them All," "Goodnight Kiss," "Solitary Shell," "About to Crash (Reprise)," and "Losing Time / Grand Finale." The composition features guitarist John Petrucci, keyboardist Jordan Rudess, drummer Mike Portnoy, bassist John Myung, and vocalist James LaBrie delivering one of progressive metal's most ambitious works.
This clear vinyl pressing delivers balanced, dynamic sound with drums that punch like a boxer, bass that gives an air high, guitars that cut to the bone, and keyboards that extract your soul. The double LP format allows these complex compositions to breathe across four sides, preserving the intricate arrangements and technical performances that define Dream Theater's sound. The gatefold jacket presentation includes a lyric insert, offering deeper insight into the album's conceptual themes. As a Rocktober 2025 limited edition indie exclusive, this reissue brings one of progressive metal's landmark achievements back to vinyl with the clarity and power it deserves.
