Descendents - All [Punk Note Edition, Black Vinyl LP]

Descendents push their melodic punk sound into a darker, more developed shape on All, pairing fast drums and sharp guitar work with Milo Aukerman's tuneful, urgent vocals. The arrival of bassist Karl Alvarez and guitarist Stephen Egerton brought new writing voices and more involved arrangements without losing the band's speed. The result moves between short hardcore bursts, hook-heavy punk songs and longer pieces that stretch beyond their usual attack.

"Coolidge" opens with a driving rhythm and one of the album's strongest melodic hooks, while "Clean Sheets" turns relationship frustration into a fast, memorable punk song with a big chorus. "Pep Talk" slows the emotional pace with lyrics about trying to move forward after a breakup, and "Schizophrenia" expands into a much longer, heavier piece than the band's usual two- or three-minute songs. "Jealous of the World" adds a harder edge, while "Uranus" closes the program with an instrumental departure.

This Punk Note Edition restores "Jealous of the World" and "Uranus" to the vinyl sequence for the first time; both had previously appeared on CD and cassette editions. The black vinyl LP comes in alternate artwork by John Yates, inspired by classic Blue Note design, with a case-wrapped jacket and new liner notes by Andrew Sacher. A case-wrapped jacket uses printed paper wrapped and glued around a thicker, rigid board core, giving the album cover a more substantial construction similar to a hardcover book.
