Rather than assembling original material, Deftones use Covers to reinterpret songs by artists whose work intersects with different parts of the band's own musical vocabulary. The 11-track collection moves from The Cars and Drive Like Jehu to The Smiths, Sade, Lynyrd Skynyrd, the band Japan, Duran Duran, The Cure, and Santo & Johnny. Several performances had appeared previously as B-sides or bonus tracks, while the LP gathers them into one collection.

"Drive" opens the collection with Deftones taking on The Cars and includes backing vocals from Shaun Lopez, while "No Ordinary Love" turns to Sade and adds vocals from Jonah Matranga. "Simple Man" reaches back to an early recording of the Lynyrd Skynyrd song made before Adrenaline, with Joe Fraulob contributing its guitar solo. "The Chauffeur" replaces Duran Duran's synth-led arrangement with a heavier guitar-driven approach, and "If Only Tonight We Could Sleep" is a live performance of The Cure song.

The source material ranges from post-punk and new wave to soul, Southern rock, and instrumental pop, showing how widely Deftones drew from music outside metal. The black vinyl LP carries six songs on Side A and five on Side B, opening with "Drive" and ending with the instrumental "Sleep Walk." These recordings come from different points in the band's career instead of one covers session.

"Drive," "No Ordinary Love," "Simple Man," and "The Chauffeur" show Deftones adapting very different source material around Moreno's vocals and Carpenter's guitar work. "Sleep Walk" closes the LP as an instrumental, the only track here without a lead vocal.
