Virginia Beach brothers Pusha T and Malice turned three years of label delays and legal battles into raw fuel for their masterpiece. Hell Hath No Fury debuted at number 14 on the Billboard 200 with 78,000 copies sold in November 2006, but commercial numbers told only part of the story. The album received a Pitchfork ranking it number 52 on their Top 200 Albums of the 2000s. The Guardian placed Hell Hath No Fury at number 73 on their list of the 100 best albums of the 21st century.
Produced entirely by The Neptunes (later revealed to be Pharrell Williams working alone), Hell Hath No Fury strips coke rap down to its essence across 12 unrelenting tracks. "Mr. Me Too" featuring Pharrell became a sniping slow burn where Pusha T apologizes to fans for label delays. "Trill" surrounds listeners with blown-out bass and tense harp plucks in a freakishly beautiful construction. "Ride Around Shining" featuring AB-Liva layers fractured groans against a single straining high note. "Wamp Wamp (What It Do)" featuring Slim Thug twists steel drums into something menacing, while "Nightmares" and "Chinese New Year" close the album with paranoid intensity. The production deploys accordions, cowbells, and distorted synths in ways that sound furious and bubbly simultaneously. Features include Pharrell Williams, Slim Thug, Bilal, and Re-Up Gang members Ab-Liva and Sandman.
This special edition 2LP arrives on gold colored vinyl in a gatefold jacket. Recorded at Hovercraft Studio in Virginia Beach and South Beach Studio in Miami, the album captures Clipse at their coldest and most lyrically precise. Prefix magazine ranked it the best album of 2006, while Blender placed it number 6 on their 50 greatest CDs of 2006. Nearly two decades later, Hell Hath No Fury stands as the defining statement of 2000s drug rap, where anger and artistry collided.
