Charli XCX - Wuthering Heights [Green & Black Corona Vinyl LP]

Following the era-defining success of BRAT, Charli XCX pivoted dramatically with Wuthering Heights, an original soundtrack album created for Emerald Fennell's film adaptation of Emily Brontë's 1847 gothic novel. After experiencing creative exhaustion from touring, Charli found renewed inspiration when Fennell approached her to write music for the film. Charli proposed creating a full concept album with songs "connected to the world [Fennell] was creating," describing the musical style as an "elegant and brutal sound palette" that "couldn't be more different from Brat." She wanted the album to reflect "a world that felt undeniably raw, wild, sexual, gothic, British, tortured." Working primarily with frequent collaborator Finn Keane (Easyfun), Charli wrote and recorded the 12-track album throughout 2025. This limited edition green and black corona vinyl captures a complete departure from her party-girl persona into darker, atmospheric territory.

"House" features The Velvet Underground's John Cale on spoken word, with noisy and distorted instrumentation described as gothic rock, industrial rock, and neoclassical dark wave. The track was inspired by Cale's quote that songs should be "elegant and brutal," becoming a mantra for the entire album. "Chains of Love" incorporates synth-pop production with strings, drawing comparisons to Charli's 2013 debut True Romance. The album represents Charli immersing herself in a story not her own, embracing the historical weight of Brontë's novel while translating its themes of intense and destructive love through her experimental pop lens. Each song functions as a sonic exploration of passion, pain, and gothic romanticism, featuring Charli stepping away from club classics into brooding cinematic soundscapes.
