Piano, acoustic guitar, and Cameron Winter's unusual vocal delivery shape the songs on Heavy Metal, his debut solo album outside Geese. The music moves between intimate ballads, folk-influenced passages, and horn arrangements with unusual percussion. Winter sings in a low register, then shifts into higher, strained phrases that change the character of a song. This silver colored vinyl record includes the album's ten tracks and a printed lyric insert.
Opening track "The Rolling Stones" pairs Winter's narrative singing with a folk-and-soul arrangement. "Nausicaa (Love Will Be Revealed)" has a measured rhythmic pulse as his voice moves between crooning and emphatic calls. Piano and woodwinds become especially prominent in "Drinking Age," where the vocal becomes increasingly distressed. Later, "Nina + Field Of Cops" builds through repeated phrases, while "$0" stretches into an extended declaration about belief and devotion in its final minutes.
Away from Geese, Winter gives piano-led compositions and unconventional storytelling room to develop beyond the sound of his band. His lyrics address love, artistic struggle, faith, and uncertainty through named characters, personal confessions, and references to real people. Mandolin, organ, and percussion supplement his piano and guitar throughout the album, often appearing briefly within songs.
