Bring Me The Horizon - That's The Spirit [Black Vinyl LP]

Bring Me The Horizon moved decisively toward arena-sized alternative rock on their fifth studio album, That's The Spirit. The record pairs electronic programming and synthesizers with distorted guitars and large, singalong choruses. Oli Sykes relies more heavily on melodic vocals than on the band's earlier releases, while keyboardist Jordan Fish helps shape the electronic arrangements. This black vinyl record comes in a gatefold jacket.

The opening "Doomed" builds from atmospheric keyboards into a dramatic chorus, setting up its musical contrasts. "Happy Song" uses a cheerleader chant against heavy guitars and lyrics about struggling to feel better. "Throne" turns electronic rhythms and a forceful refrain into one of the band's defining singles, while "Follow You" shifts toward a gentler love song with a steady beat and layered vocals. Elsewhere, the piano and orchestral elements of "Oh No" close the record on a more reflective note.

Sykes and Fish produced That's The Spirit, recorded at Black Rock Studios in Santorini, Greece in 2015. Its lyrics explore depression, relationships and the pressure to seem happy during difficult times. The album's title reflects its recurring use of dark humor in response to those struggles. The move toward more accessible rock songwriting broadened the band's audience.
