Bob Dylan's ninth studio album Nashville Skyline marked one of the most surprising pivots in rock history, embracing country music with complete sincerity. Building on the rustic style he experimented with on John Wesley Harding, Nashville Skyline displayed a complete immersion into country music with more basic lyrical themes, simple songwriting structures, and charming domestic feel. It introduced audiences to a radically new singing voice from Dylan, who had temporarily quit smoking, a soft, affected country croon. Reaching No. 3 in the U.S., the album also scored Dylan his fourth UK No. 1 album, achieving platinum certification and becoming one of his best-selling releases. Produced by Bob Johnston and recorded at Columbia Studio A in Nashville, the album featured an all-star cast including Kenny Buttrey on drums, Charlie McCoy on bass, Pete Drake on pedal steel, Norman Blake on dobro, and a young Charlie Daniels on guitar and bass.

"Lay Lady Lay" was a Top 10 hit in both the U.S. and UK, becoming one of Dylan's most enduring songs with its lazy sensuality and memorable melody. The album opens with "Girl from the North Country," a duet with Johnny Cash that transforms Dylan's earlier folk song into a country ballad. "Nashville Skyline Rag" is a joyful instrumental showcase for the session musicians, while "To Be Alone with You" begins with Dylan asking producer Bob Johnston, "Is it rolling, Bob?" The breezy "I Threw It All Away" and the playful "Peggy Day" demonstrate Dylan's newfound simplicity, while "One More Night" and "Tell Me That It Isn't True" offer heartfelt vulnerability. "Country Pie" serves as an unabashed tribute to the genre, and "Tonight I'll Be Staying Here with You" closes with Jerry Lee Lewis-style piano driving one of the album's strongest tracks.

This black vinyl pressing delivers the album's warm, intimate production with clarity. Kris Kristofferson observed: "Our generation owes him our artistic lives, because he opened all the doors in Nashville when he did Blonde on Blonde and Nashville Skyline. The country scene was so conservative until he arrived. He brought in a whole new audience." The standard jacket features Dylan's contented smile, signaling his artistic satisfaction during this period. This reissue preserves a brief but influential album that clocks in at just 27 minutes, proving that Dylan could master any genre he chose to explore.
