Billy Joel - Turnstiles [Indie Exclusive Gold Colored Vinyl]

Billy Joel's return to New York shaped the songs on Turnstiles, his fourth studio album. After living in Los Angeles, Joel brought his attention back to the city and the people from his past. The album combines piano-led ballads with energetic rock performances, with members of his touring band. Its eight songs move from personal farewells to a fictional New York disaster. This indie exclusive vinyl record is pressed on Subway Token Gold colored vinyl.

"Say Goodbye to Hollywood" opens with a driving beat and a farewell to the California music scene, while "Summer, Highland Falls" sets reflections on sadness and happiness over flowing piano lines. "New York State of Mind" slows the pace for a jazz-influenced tribute to the city, with saxophone in a prominent role. "Prelude/Angry Young Man" moves from a rapid piano introduction into a full-band rock song about youthful certainty. The album also includes intimate portraits and theatrical arrangements.

Joel produced Turnstiles himself, and the album helped establish his subsequent band sound. Its New York setting appears in songs about returning home, changing relationships and the passage of time. The recording also gave an early studio role to members of his touring group, including drummer Liberty DeVitto and bassist Doug Stegmeyer, linking his live and studio work.
