Anderson .Paak and Cordae turn years of collaborations into their first joint album, Heavy Is The Crown. Their partnership began with "RNP" and continued through "Two Tens" and "Summer Drop", establishing a mix of Cordae's rapping and .Paak's singing and rhythmic delivery. The album's title points to their responsibilities as providers for their families, while the cover pays tribute to the film Step Brothers and their friendship outside the studio.

"A Good Day" draws on Bill Withers' "Lovely Day" and places an upbeat sample alongside the duo's performances. Its video, directed by Dave Meyers, references the film Friday. The album also includes "58th Floor", "Airbender", and "I'm On", among its eleven announced tracks. The complete track titles were announced ahead of release, though most songs had yet to be heard. Their earlier collaborations show how Cordae's verses and .Paak's melodic vocals can work together, an approach carried into this project.

The title Heavy Is The Crown reflects how both musicians balance professional success with obligations at home. Their friendship is also central to the project: the artwork's Step Brothers reference plays on their easy rapport, and the lyrics address the pressure of supporting family. This indie exclusive vinyl record is pressed in the Clandestine colorway, in pink and gray marble.
