Released February 12, 1972, via Capricorn Records, Eat A Peach stands as both a celebration of the Allman Brothers Band's artistic peak and a poignant tribute to founding member and slide guitarist Duane Allman, who died in a motorcycle accident on October 29, 1971, just weeks after the band's breakthrough At Fillmore East went gold. The double album mixes studio recordings from Criteria Studios in Miami with live performances from the Fillmore East, creating a portrait of a band at their creative apex. This limited edition pressing of 500 copies features one Pink and one Blue 180-gram vinyl LP housed in a gatefold jacket with three bonus tracks including "One More Ride," "Dreams," and "Statesboro Blues (Fillmore East 1971)." The album peaked at number four on the Billboard 200 and spent 48 weeks on the charts, eventually achieving Platinum certification and becoming one of the band's best-selling releases.
The original nine-track album opens with Gregg Allman's optimistic "Ain't Wastin' Time No More," recorded after his brother's death, followed by the jazz-influenced instrumental "Les Brers in A Minor" and the touching "Melissa," Duane's favorite song. The 33-minute "Mountain Jam" spans two vinyl sides, showcasing the band's legendary improvisational prowess from their final Fillmore East performance on June 27, 1971. Dickey Betts emerged from Duane's shadow with his vocal turn on "Blue Sky," featuring one of rock's most celebrated guitar solos, while "One Way Out" and "Trouble No More" capture the raw energy of their live performances. The album closes with the acoustic instrumental "Little Martha," a delicate duet between Duane and Dickey that serves as a final testament to Duane's extraordinary range. The bonus tracks expand the collection with additional studio and live material that showcase both brothers Duane and Gregg, alongside Betts, bassist Berry Oakley, and drummers Butch Trucks and Jai Johanny Johanson.
This limited edition pressing on Pink and Blue 180-gram vinyl has been remastered from the original analog tapes by Keven Reeves to 192kHz 24-bit audio, then cut on copper plates using Abbey Road Mastering's Direct Metal Mastering (DMM) lathe. Housed in a gatefold jacket with a replica of the original insert featuring W. David Powell and J.F. Holmes' iconic peach truck artwork and psychedelic mural, the pressing captures enhanced clarity and separation across both studio and live recordings. Limited to just 500 copies worldwide, this Vinyl Lovers release delivers one of southern rock's defining albums with collector appeal and sonic fidelity that honors the legacy of Duane Allman and the band's immortal contribution to American music.
