AC/DC were in a slump in late 1976, nearly facing the end of their career when Atlantic Records rejected their Dirty Deeds album. Their response was to make an album and "shove it up their arse," as the band put it. With its almost biblical overtones, Let There Be Rock came screaming out of Australia in 1977 as AC/DC's first stab at a real album. This was the last album featuring bass player Mark Evans, and the international cover marked the first appearance of the iconic lightning bolt AC/DC logo designed by Gerard Huerta. This 180-gram pressing features the 2003 remaster, bringing enhanced sonic clarity to one of the band's most explosive statements.
AC/DC's music has been variously described as hard rock, blues rock and heavy metal, although the band calls it simply "rock and roll." Let There Be Rock features longer songs like "Go Down," "Dog Eat Dog," and the floor-rattling title track, all showcasing ripping interplay between Bon Scott's perverse howl and Angus Young's straight-for-the-throat guitar lines. The album includes "Bad Boy Boogie," "Hell Ain't a Bad Place to Be," and the near-classic "Whole Lotta Rosie," which would become one of the band's live staples. Angus Young recalled that his brother George asked what kind of album they wanted to make, and they said it would be great to just make a lot of guitar riffs, as they were all fired up after touring.
Remastered from the original mix-down two-track masters for unprecedented sonic brilliance, this 180-gram vinyl pressing delivers the raw power and intensity that made Let There Be Rock legendary. In 2001, Q magazine named it as one of the 50 Heaviest Albums of All Time. Band biographer Jesse Fink writes that wherever AC/DC ended up in the annals of rock history, this album would stand for all time as an expression of their unrivaled might as a guitar band. The album includes a printed inner sleeve, preserving the complete artwork from this milestone release.
